Microsoft Update for Microsoft Partners

Welcome to our news!

June's Partner Center updates orbit one date: July 1. Three announcements change pricing or SKUs that take effect that day, while two backend changes: one in reconciliation files, one in the inventory API - carry deadlines of their own that partners can't defer.

TL;DR:

  • Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Premium with Copilot become permanent SKUs on July 1, the same day a global Microsoft 365 price increase lands across every purchasing channel, close renewals now to lock in current pricing.
  • New Agent 365 purchases have required Microsoft 365 E5 (or the SMB/frontline equivalent) since June 1; check licensing before your next Agent 365 conversation.
  • The ReferenceId field in reconciliation files switched to a structured JSON format on June 15; update your parsing logic if you haven't already.
  • The Check Inventory API retires September 25 in favor of a new resource-type-filtered version; migrate before then.

Here are the announcements that matter most for CSP partners this month.

New Microsoft 365 Business with Copilot SKUs available July 1

What's happening:

Starting July 1, Microsoft 365 Business Standard with Copilot and Business Premium with Copilot become permanent SKUs, priced at $23.50 and $32 per user per month. Two promotions run alongside them: Business Basic + Copilot Business at $21 per user per month (25% off through December 31) and standalone Copilot Business at $18 per user per month (15% off, extended through December 31) — both with no license minimum.

Date of Announcement: June 1, 2026

Effective Date: July 1, 2026 (price list preview available in Partner Center starting June 1)

Who is affected: CSP partners selling Microsoft 365 Business

Action Required: No immediate transaction required, but partners should update their acquisition motion, quotes, and website to lead with the Copilot-bundled SKUs, and build a renewal plan for existing Business Standard and Premium customers.

💡 Quick Note: Permanent pricing beats promotional pricing for one reason: it lets partners build Copilot into the default SMB pitch instead of racing a promo deadline. If you've held back on leading with Copilot because the offer felt temporary, July 1 removes that excuse. Full SKU and licensing detail is in License options for Microsoft 365 Copilot.

New licensing prerequisite for Agent 365

What's happening

New Agent 365 purchases now require a prerequisite license: Microsoft 365 E5 for enterprise customers, Microsoft Defender and Purview at the F5 level for frontline workers, and Microsoft 365 Business Premium for SMB customers. Microsoft 365 E7 customers are unaffected, since E7 already includes E5, Agent 365, Copilot, and Microsoft Entra Suite.

Date of Announcement: June 1, 2026

Effective Date: June 4, 2026 — already in effect for new purchases

Who is affected: Partners supporting Agent 365 customer engagements

Action Required: Check a customer's licensing position before proposing Agent 365, and flag any prerequisite gaps early in the conversation.

💡 Quick Note: This turns a licensing check into a qualification step, not paperwork after the fact. If you're mid-pitch on Agent 365 with a customer who doesn't hold E5 or Business Premium, that's a blocker to raise now, not at the order form. See plans and licensing for Microsoft Agent 365 for the full prerequisite breakdown by customer segment.

Microsoft 365 pricing and packaging updates coming in 2026

What's happening:

A global Microsoft 365 pricing update takes effect across all purchasing channels on July 1, 2026, tied to Microsoft's continued expansion of security and management capabilities across commercial Microsoft 365 suites.

Date of Announcement: June 15, 2026

Effective Date: July 1, 2026

Who is affected: All CSP partners, including distributors, indirect resellers, direct bill partners, and scale solution providers

Action Required: Yes, prioritize customer renewals ahead of July 1 to lock in current pricing, and use the change to open upsell conversations toward Microsoft 365 E3, E5, or Business + Copilot bundles.

💡 Quick Note: A price increase is an awkward conversation after the fact and a useful one before it. Customers renewing in the next few weeks have a real reason to act now instead of pushing the decision to next quarter. Pull your July renewal list today — pricing and offers for new commerce license-based products explains how price lists and renewal timing work together.

ReferenceId format update in reconciliation files

What's happening:

The ReferenceId attribute in Billed Reconciliation and Unbilled Reconciliation files now uses a structured JSON format instead of a plain string, effective June 15, 2026.

Date of Announcement: June 15, 2026 (originally announced in April; June 15 confirmed as the effective date)

Effective Date: June 15, 2026 — already in effect

Who is affected: CSP direct bill partners and distributors

Action Required: Yes, update any reconciliation processing or reporting logic that parses ReferenceId as a plain string.

💡 Quick Note: If you're parsing ReferenceId as a plain string in your recon pipeline, June 15 has already come and gone — check now, not at month-end close. Billing logic, charges, and invoice totals aren't affected, so this is a parsing fix, not a financial reconciliation risk. Field-level detail is in the reconciliation file documentation.

The Bottom Line

June's theme is deadline convergence on July 1: a pricing increase, a SKU transition, and a licensing prerequisite all land close to the same date, which means partners who wait until late June to act are compressing weeks of renewal and quoting work into days. Underneath the pricing news, two quieter API-level changes — reconciliation formatting and inventory checks — are the kind of items that don't show up in a sales deck but will break automation if ignored. Treat July 1 as the hard line it is, and treat the API deadlines as equally hard, just less visible.
